Observation details
After hearing sweet "chip" calls form the same oaks where I saw the wintering bird a week earlier I managed to find this bird actively moving about the upper branches of the live oaks. My views were not as good as before, yet I was able to see clearly this bird's small size, slim bill, and relatively long tail that was flared slightly and at least at times cocked upward. The tail further appeared to be square-tipped, but with a weak notch when spread. When seen from below, I was able to note on this bird mostly dull whitish underparts that included the throat, belly, and undertail coverts, but also with a patch of lemon-yellow on either side of the breast. The tail was also yellow for about the basal half, but with the tip black and the demarcation between the two a sharp one. When I saw the bird's upperparts I thought the face and head were more grayish than the back and wings, which appeared dark brown. I have a weak recollection of seeing a yellow stripe across the middle part of the wing, but my views were too brief to note its precise location or shape. I think the bill and eyes were dark, but I did not see either of them all that well.
