Observation details
Rains from the previous day created some new standing water areas north of the road. As a drove in I noticed a large shorebird in the first pond on the right. I used a scope to study the bird for at least 15 minutes. I knew it was a godwit with its long slightly upturned bill, but I ruled out Hudsonian when I was able to observe its underwing and rump, neither showed any white. The godwit finally flew off to the south towards pond 2 and it vocalized as it was flying over my head. The flight calls confirmed that it was a Marbled Godwit. Poor photos to follow.
