Observation details
Seen on the ice between Pine Island and the Broad St bridge. White wingtips with a short primary projection, very light grey mantle (appears white at a distance), light coloured eye. Sitting on ice, so couldn’t see leg colour. Next to CAGUs, and appeared larger. Bill was long and proportional to head, and pink with a distinct dark tip, indicating a subadult. Large size, short primary projection, and a not-stubby bill rule out Iceland Gull. Glaucous Gull is the only other white-winged possibility, and features fit a subadult GLGU perfectly.
