Observation details
Discovered by David Waltman today. Coming in to his bird feeders. A phenotypically pure bird, with no white on the back. A large sparrow-like bird, with a conical bill with which it ate seeds on the ground. Much larger than the juncos next to it, but only 1/3 the size of the nearby Steller's Jays. Nice chocolate brown head/breast=hood and concolorous back. Back had faint dark streaks. The base of the primaries were white, and there was a horizontal white streak formed by pale outer edges to the primaries. There was no other white on the wing. The bill was black and conical. The sides of the breast and flanks were a rich rufous color. The undertail coverts were rich buff. The tail was dark except for white corners, with white on the three outer rects. No vocalizations were heard.
