Observation details
Found within a few minutes of arriving at stakeout location - southeast corner of park along treeline/fenceline across from the old RV hookups. Actively foraging mostly at eye level or lower, making short sally-strikes or aerial sallies, rarely returning to the same perch. Was vocal on and off, mostly giving soft, flat "sip" contact calls, but also a "breet" like call occasionally. Constantly pumping tail downward, and constantly looking around for food. Quite tame, allowing for 20-30 foot approach without a change in behavior. Small empid with moderate primary projection. Tail widing toward tip (pinched at base) with white outer edges of outer rectrices. Head "cute" and rounded (not giving any hints of a crest). Thin pale complete eyering and pale lores. Maxilla entirely dark and mandible nearly entirely pale creamy-yellow. Whitish throat, faint smuding in chest and upper flanks over whitish background, becoming pale yellowish toward center of belly. Tertials with distinct broad outer white edging, and white tips to medium and greater coverts. Pale olive-gray above. All photos and videos digi-scoped with smartphone.
