Observation details
While I was looking for Harlequin Quail in this area of the northern savannahs, I heard a Common Nightingale singing into a bush. I was surprise because this species has never been reported in the country before (to my knowledge). So I decided to find the bird. As usual in Europe, it is not easy to have a good sight of this species as it uses to stay deeply hidden in the vegetation. I tried for about 1 hour, but impossible to have a clear sight of the bird. I only saw it when it was moving from a bush to another : a small rufous-brown passerine, typical color of the Common Nightingale. Otherwise, the bird was singing its typical song, well known to all european birdwatchers. The song can not be consufed with any other species in São Tomé. I had the opportunity to record the song, with one audio file (see attached), and one video whose only the sound is interesting, but I can not attache the file, I do not know why. This record might be the first country report for a Common Nightingale in São Tomé and Principe. Also in the same area and the same day was a Garden Warbler, another rare vagrant for the country.
