Observation details
Third-winter, large, dark-backed gull. Picked out from the parking lot (>500m), and re-found several times. Clearly distinct from the 3rd winter GBBG it was seen near a few times - smaller, with a much thinner bill. Slightly larger than HEGU. Mantle dark, close to GBBG, wings dark brown. I thought I could make out a white crescent, but couldn't be sure. In flight underwing mottled brown, but underside of primaries dark. Tail with a dark terminal band. Legs pale pink. Dark splotch around eye, bill with dark tip. Curious for other opinions, but I suspect Slaty-backed Gull, though Lesser Black-backed and some hybrid would be possibilities.
