Observation details
4 M 3F. I was surprised to find them in the lake because of high weekend visitors. But there were no kayaks present and the birds tolerated park visitors for the most part and went about their business. They moved to different areas as a close flock fishing together herding onto shallow areas where they swam with heads down in the water and then dove. Preened near the island, fished in the cove with the fishing dock, and then they swam across the lake to fish the length of the dam. Approaching the dam cove as a line that spanned the width they herded the fish into shallows swimming with heads in the water and dove or scrambled through the submerged reeds. At the closest I was ~ 50’ from the nearest one using my car as a blind. So beautiful to study them.
