Observation details
Great find! Initial views of a female redstart with orange tail like Blue-fronted, but wing bars like Blue-capped. This combination of features immediately suggested Eversmann's to us, a bird which we had been discussing whilst birding together with Tim Inskipp in Uttarakhand just a few days previously! Generally a typical redstart. Long tail and two clear white wing bars and obvious white fringes to the tertials and secondaries, the latter forming a clear pale panel on the folded wing. Rump was a bright warm orange, and tail similarly coloured: the outertail feathers were completely orange, with no black tip as on Blue-fronted. Central tail feathers blackish. Head greyish-brown, with small brown ear covert patch. Underparts paler brown. Buff orbital ring. Frequently cocked its tail similar to a Red-breasted Flycatcher, but never shiverred in the manner of a Black Redstart. Call a trill similar to Blue-capped, but slightly slower, deeper and drier.
