Observation details
Three different calls given by two birds perched 8’ from me. The birds were perhaps 6’ apart. The first call, given by bird #1, sounds like a soft tremulous wheezy-wooo whistle, and is given five times during the first 4-seconds or so of the recording. The second call, given by bird #2 is a repetitive clicking given 7 times at ~1-second intervals during the first 7-seconds of the recording; it was accompanied by “neck-stretching.” The third call, given by bird #1, is a siren-like whine. Common Raven at 4.5, 5.5, 6.5, also Mountain Chickadee. Call #1 might be the Crack-and-Whistle Call, but I never heard a crackle, just a wheezy whistle . The clicking call (call #2) is most similar to the description of the Hiccup Call, but given at a somewhat longer interval—I rarely hear this call. The third call is most similar to the Mew Call, but not quite. I hear the Mew Call frequently, but this was a bit different and certainly less emphatic. I suspect these calls might be associated wit pair-bonding.
