Observation details
Apparently the same individual photographed by Mark Martucci yesterday. Note the medium gray back (consistent with the northern subspecies), the black primaries, the bill lacking any of the black seen on the hybrid that frequents here, and the presence of a pale iris (consistent with the northern subspecies),with yellow orbital rim. The bill is yellower and thicker than seen in Glaucous-winged hybrids. The clean white of the head and neck also point to Western Gull. More than likely, in comparing photos, this is the same bird that has been sighted at Ancil Hoffman Park over the past few winters.
