Observation details
Last reported on 19 January. Carefully reviewed images and I believe this to be the continuing Thick-billed Murre that was discovered on 30 Dec. Seen inside the bay just south of the inlet where it dove and preened before taking to flight and headed south toward the ocean. Large alcid species and readily separated from Common Murre by the following field marks; clean white flanks versus “dirty” streaked flanks. Shorter, slightly heftier looking bill than Common Murre with pale horizontal stripe at gape. Completely dark head outlining white throat lacking characteristics post ocular stripe as seen on non-breeding Common Murre. Ph.
