Observation details
First-winter bird. Robust bird resembling a Herring Gull in size but with a great deal of white edging on the scapulars, lesser, middle and greater coverts. Pronounced slope to forhead, stout dark bill, darkest at the tip, dark iris, chocolate-gray plumage, pink legs. Bird has been seen by multiple observers in the 2-3 weeks that it has been present. Similar species - much larger than ring-billed with which it associated (size comparison photograph available). Iceland Gull is paler, whiter in plumage, white light iris and less contrasting wingtips (Kumlien's) [From documentation form].
