Observation details
I heard these chickadees from my cabin. I have several bird feeders with sunflower seed and a couple bags of suet. They've been coming around regularly all winter. Yesterday was the first day I heard a few tentative "spring" songs, as I call them. Today they were just going at it. There's at least 2 individuals singing the spring song and others are in the neighborhood vocalizing in other ways from time to time. I don't think I've ever heard them singing so heartily this early in the year. Usually mid February is about normal. This was the second warm day after a couple weeks of cold (near or below 0F) It was about 20F, mostly sunny, calm. I recorded a few brief general scenes. The birds sang for almost an hour. The birds sang from nearby my cabin from spruces (mostly dead from beetle kill) and birches.
