NOTES: Recorded in MS stereo (first cut) and XY stereo with Telinga Pro5B (second cut) from a canoe. Martha Fischer and I mounted the microphones to the bow of the boat and paddled around the pond aiming for general colony/roost sounds. I also recorded everything simultaneously with a Telinga Pro5B, hand-held, from the bow of the boat. All recordings were made on two Nagra ARES-BB+ recorders. This recording was aimed at the Mycteria americana rookery in the back (west side) of the pond. Also present are Phalacrocorax auritus, Strix varia, and the high-pitched chirping calls of nestling Platalea ajaja (see LNS 135411). The guttural, deep machine gun calls are Mycteria americana. The moon was full and bright while making these recordings. The MS recording is from source CD MJA199 and the XY from MJA198. Habitat: Pond.
