Media notes
Notice that the two female-type crossbills on the right have their mandibles crossed in different orientations (on one the tip of the mandible is to the right of the maxilla and on the other the mandible tip is to the left)
Observation details
Came into drink at the "leaky tank" after modest playback of calls. They perched in the cedars and pines that surrounded the large tank, before slowly circling in on their bucket of water, getting lower and lower before proceeding to come in at once to drink (at ~12:15 pm). After a short drink, they vacated the area, apparently satisfied. The very helpful park guard said that noon is the best time for this crossbill show. One adult male (fully red), one partially red (subadult male), and the rest females/immatures.
