Observation details
Whilst scanning through the Herring Gulls I noticed a much smaller gull. The dark bill, vertical smudge behind the eye, dark neck ruff, and wing pattern (with the dark feathers of the 'W' pattern visible even on the resting bird) soon pointed to a 1st winter Black-Legged Kittiwake. The bird was initially awake but then spent most of it's time dozing. Even with its head tucked in, the small size and wing pattern made it easy to pick out amongst the gull flock.
