Observation details
The Trumpeter Swans were on the large pond on Rosemary Lane. As always, it is a combination of things that brings one to the conclusion that they are Trumpeters. The long straight culmen, Canvasback shaped head, extensive gray on the back of the immatures this late in the season are all good indicators. The lack of a narrow black line leading from the eye is another. The area is wide at on these birds. Also, some Tundras have a bit of yellow just in front of the eye. With this many birds it seems likely that one would have the yellow. The immatue with the pink on the bill has black at the base of the bill rather than being pink all the way to the base.
