Observation details
2nd cycle Glaucous x Herring, or "Nelson's" Gull. Stood out among young Herrings, "Thayer's" Icelands, and Glaucous-wings nearby as noticeably "frostier" winged in flight, especially on the inner primaries and secondaries. In these shots note the bicolored bill, pale bluish-gray mantle, stout shape, and, perhaps most importantly, the crisp barring on the wing coverts and tertials (these are usually smoother brownish-gray and less crisply patterned on the more frequent in this region Glaucous-winged x Herring or "Cook Inlet" Gull.
