Observation details

A juvenile bird (photographed) spent most of the time I was there perched on telephone poles in the valley, hunting in the valley, or perched on the ground there. At one point two adult birds entered the area and interacted with it, including an incident where all three Red-tailed Hawks mobbed an immature Golden Eagle that was carrying prey; I speculated that the eagle might have taken prey from one of the Red-tailed Hawks, but I didn’t see that happen. Other Red-tailed Hawks viewed tended to be more distant, station-keeping above ridges east and west of my location.
