Observation details
Originally found by Carl Lundblad. Bold black and white tail banding, remiges weakly banded, buffy-washed underwing, upper parts all dark with no hints of red or white. Mixture of new adult and retained juvenile remiges are visible in some photos. I originally saw the bird flying across the river from WA to ID along the Snake River Trail. It perched in a tree in ID (south of the Hells Gate SP campground) and made a hunting attempt to the ground. After <5 minutes, the bird flew back across the river into WA and perched in a tree near the river. It made a successful hunting attempt on a nearby hillside, killing and eating a small mammal. It remained on the WA side of the border for the remaining time that I watched it. Record submitted to the IBRC.
