Observation details
Snow Geese numbers in the checks east of the auto tour are the highest I have ever seen here. Quite an amazing spectacle as they all lifted and eventually flew over my head. This is definitely a low estimate. At one point while I was observing them a group lifted off in the distance, and quickly all of them flew up at once. This first group had at least 15,000 total geese, and after they settled I began to keep track of the flyovers, which had roughly 100 birds/ 10 seconds, for about 20 minutes from 11:45 -12:05. I estimated this to roughly 500 birds/ minute, or 10,000 birds. The original group had more than 1.5x as many as the total flyovers. Also, there was another huge group of 5,000 plus closer to the freeway that I could not estimate well. Snows outnumbered White-fronts about 4-1. Also saw at least 2 blue phase. Pictures show only small portions of the total group. Possibly video to follow.
