Observation details
Edit: March 4, 2012, bird was accepted by VARCOM as the first state record for the species. I first observed the bird at approximately 0830 hours on Delta Road, feeding in the road with a group of Song Sparrows. I immediately recognized the bird as unusual but if flew before I had a good look. The bird then responded to pishing where I was able to observe it at close range and obtain photographs. I documented the following characteristics: small triangular yellowish bill, top of head streaked, prominent white eye-ring, pale overall with weak marks, gray streaked nape, wing bars - greater and median coverts with white/buffy margins, long notched tail, and very dark brownish tertials with pale margins. In addition, I noted the small size of the bird estimating it as slightly less but no bigger than Field Sparrow which I saw in the same shrub at one time.
