Observation details
GCRC 2015-16, relocated one adult bird found earlier in the evening by Jim Flynn. The gull was foraging as it flew back and forth, usually no more than 10 feet off of the water, with large groups of gulls, many of which were also foraging and flying all about, and many also were in groups on the water. There were lots and lots of Bonaparte's Gulls moving all around the bird for great and constant comparisons. At the range I could right away see very well the intense black underwings really strongly contrasting with all of the other gulls around, as well as the pale gray upperwings, and white trailing wing edges above and below, and the wingtips with no black in them, and that the bird was indeed a good bit smaller than all of the Bonaparte's Gulls, and that it had much more rounded wingtips when compared to its neighbors. The gull dropped to the water several times (disappearing), and then would take off again for more foraging about. - - - Aerial photography map of sighting area. Photo collage of the bird put together by James F. Flynn Jr. (finder of the bird) from photos that he took during his initial session with the gull (about 5:30pm), about 2 hours prior to my relocating it in the same location, posted here with Jim's permission.
