Observation details
Presumably the one seen by M. Huang on Oct. 25. A male with completely red throat, so possibly the same one that wintered last year? Described from photos: clear sapsucker; red throat completely bordered by black along malar and where border turns on throat (did not see upper breast); red on crown with black border; pale brown back and side of head with no sign of red on nape; back pattern mostly tan (on black) with two columns of horizontal bands, columns relatively broad compared to many RNSA's. In pines and magnolia near southeast corner of south lake. Of the sapsuckers seen today, the only one that made a clear mewing sound, and repeatedly.
