Observation details
Thought it was a Great Crested as it flew in to the dead tree to the right of the intersection (bright tertials) but once I got around the intervening trees it was rather obvious: thick, dark vest, very broad bill, big head, short tail. Flew off quickly and I couldn't refind it, checking every likely perch multiple times.
