Observation details
Watched this bird for over 1 hour. Head more rounded and sloped back than we'd see on the more flat headed (with rear crown peak) Lesser Scaup. Bill also pretty large relative to head. Went over to the Powers Island side to get better pictures when the bird moved across the river to sit on a rock. Photos below. Allison and I took turns watching for white in the primaries but the bird would not extend the wings. At one point it did but it was very quick and we were across the river, so I am uncertain if the white extended into the primaries or not. From CS: From Powers Island:
