Observation details
Male just east of the Hanlon Expressway bridge. Tons of unexpected ducks have been showing up on rivers around Ontario this week as open water is scarce. Bufflehead is not as rare as the other species that have shown up, but I suspect it is linked to the same phenomenon that has brought Canvasback, Redhead, Greater Scaup, Ring-necked Duck, Long-tailed Duck and Ruddy Duck to Guelph in the past week, as well as similar mixes of birds elsewhere (e.g. Long-tailed Duck, Canvasback, Greater Scaup, Red-breasted Merganser and Horned Grebe in London).
