Observation details
***MEGA*** | Juvenile dark morph, discovered by Jimmy Warren during the late-morning. We easily re-located it feeding in the shallow waters of the NW portion of Danzenbaker Pool (a couple hundred yards east of the dogleg), almost exactly where it was originally found. A sleek, tall, all-dark wading bird, with long legs and neck, and a sturdy, straight, dark bill; pale eye; slaty blue upperparts; some pinkish/magenta hues to the underparts and face; dark gray-blue legs. Generally mottled appearance. Actively feeding in typical REEG "dancing" fashion. A new state bird for all in our party. This individual would represent the second New Jersey record. Interestingly, the first was from 24 August 1998, and was also at Forsythe NWR. Copious photos, notes obtained.
