Observation details
***rare, state bird Found by Suzanne Sullivan Friday afternoon. On arrival, was sleeping along the wrack line. After Suzanne got me on it (way closer than I expected), very obvious once it lifted the head. Huge drooping bill and white rump were both obvious from here. Eventually it got up and walked about 20 feet before preening and then napping again. Appears to have remained in that spot for quite some time based on other's pictures and reports. Speculation is that the Stilt Sandpiper reported recently may have been this. Larger Calidris. Overall gray, strong eyebrow. Most of the back and wing feathers were solid gray with whiter fringe and darker shaft. Legs dark. Rump area bright white. Huge drooping bill (1.5+ times the size of the head).
