Observation details
Mega***- First state record pending NJBRC acceptance; The bird was first found by Rob Fergus on 1/16 who reported it as an Indigo Bunting. After several negative attempts I finally saw the bird today. The bird was traveling in the mixed sparrow flock on the road to the boat launch. The exact location is between the gated road on the right and the guardrails by the bridge that crosses the creek. The bird was seen very briefly from the car and then it flew away from the road. After 45 minutes of searching, I relocated the bird feeding on the ground with Juncos. Medium-sized bunting with an unstreaked, warm buffy chest; buffy wing-bars. Photos:
