NOTES: I saw the male quite well before I recorded this and the female later; the birds were initially 4-5 meters away, later 12-15 meters away, and finally 2-3 meters away, and typically between ground level and 2 meters up in the dense undergrowth right along the stream (though I earlier saw the male up 4-5 meters above the ground in vine tangles); this is the same pair of birds that I had recorded previously at this spot in cuts #2001-17-10, 2001-18-10, and 2001-19-01, along the creek right at the bend in the road at the bottom of the hill [09¡ 00' 02Ó S, 35¡ 50' 26Ó W, 390 meters]; they began singing on their own, but Bruno de Freitas Xavier also imitated them, which seemed to result in a weak approach; partly cloudy to almost fully overcast, some breeze, 86¡ F. ML: Subject changed from recordist's original identification of Cercomacra laeta sabinoi to Cercomacra laeta to conform to eBird Taxonomy (v. 1.55). -Jay McGowan/Matt Medler, July 2015. Response to playback: Approach. Response to playback: Normal song. Other Behaviors: Advertise. Habitat: Rainforest, Evergreen Forest, Creek, Riparian.
