Observation details
[*Mega rarity] One adult flying high over shoreline and then out over the small La Perla bay with a flock of 19 Pelecanus occidentalis. The flock flew right over our heads, as we were stationed at the edge of the highway at an overlook of the bay; they were flying east, as if migrating. Obviously much larger than the Brown Pelicans; gave impression in the field as being nearly twice the size, but studying the photos as the bird flew away from us indicates its wingspan was about 25% longer than the Brown Pelicans. Body seemed much larger too. Jeniffer Abrego took 3 documentation-quality photos, and sent them to me. The photo here was taken by her; the bird is third from the left. - O. Komar.
