Observation details
*very rare (county bird!) Seen flying over going east, loosely with a few Feral Pigeons, well seen by the entire half of the Ornithology lab I was with, as well as the Santa Cruz Bird Club field trip. Unmistakable, a large woodpecker looking more like an odd smallish crow, overall blackish with distinctive pointy tail feathers, gray below blending to pinkish on the belly, dark red face. I never saw it land, but I think the club re-found it later before it disappeared again. Photo:
