Observation details
1058, a single blackbird flew in to the pond I was near in reach 3, near its west side, and made several "chack" calls right after landing. I thought I glimpsed some brownish on it in flight, and slowly snuck closer. Got great views for a few minutes as it moved along the 99% frozen surface of the pond, dipping its bill into the remaining open water in one spot, moving around the base of a willow, visiting other holes of open water, then moving mostly out of sight near the steep bank at the S edge of the pond. Then at 1105 (almost 1106) it flew E to the next pond and then proceeded to move out of sight to the E (on the ice). Nonvocal except for the one series of calls mentioned. Video. Noted with interest how rapidly it walked, almost ran, across the surface of the pond - clearly well-built for ground locomotion. On the return, I checked all the ponds and did not see the RUBL, but could have missed it given how quiet and unobtrusive it was.
