NOTES: Two pairs counter-singing from dense, roadside scrub at the edge of rather chopped-up forest along the right fork of the second spur (ramal) road in the INCRA project; the pair that I was following were 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 meters up, and as near as 6 meters and as far as 15 meters away; they were in constant motion, moving over 100 meters while I recorded this cut; both birds were well seen, the male giving the slower song and the female giving the one with the trilled ending; limited playback after the first part of this recording resulted in the closer pair going quiet and briefly coming in, with one bird flying across the road, but they soon flew back over to a point quite near the other pair before slowly moving back; in general, they seemed far more interested in the other pair than they were with me or my playback; the last part of this recording was clearly a response to playback, with the birds giving similar songs somewhat more frequently; the main difference was that the birds now remained relatively stationary, now about 4-5 meters away and 2-2 1/2 meters up; mostly cloudy, calm, 78¡ F; this cut has multiple parts and an internal announcement. LNS: Subject changed from Hypocnemis cantator to Hypocnemis striata based on location by Morton Isler. --Jay McGowan 20Aug2012. Response to playback: Approach. Other Behaviors: Advertise. Habitat: Rainforest, Evergreen Forest, Scrub.
