NOTES: This bird was unseen when recorded, glimpsed four times as it crossed the trail shortly later (as a medium-sized, dark gray tinamou running on the ground), and eventually seen relatively well after much effort; when recorded, the bird was 5-8 meThis is the same bird that was highlighted in cut #2000-34-10, unseen at the time but this was recorded after I managed to get relatively good views of the bird following much playback and whistled imitation, in response to which the bird went silent and approached, doing broad circles around me; it eventually began to sing soft songs and later louder songs, at times with the notes somewhat attenuated; when recorded, the bird was probably <15 meters away and presumably on the ground (as it was when I saw it) away in very dense undergrowth with many palms and Heliconia just in from the edge of tall terra firme forest on the south side of the road right at the beginning of the second forest trail; clouding up again, thunder nearby and rain likely approaching, generally calm but breeze beginning to pick up, 88¡ F; note that this is a continuation of cut #2000-34-09, which was recorded after reel #2000-35. Response to playback: Approach. Response to playback: Normal song. Response to playback: Different song. Other Behaviors: Advertise. Habitat: Rainforest, Evergreen Forest.
