Observation details
All were in the water, mostly near the peninsula where there's more protection from the wind. They were moving back and forth around that part of the lake a lot (and would move away from the shore every time we got close), but I was able to get a count of most of them when several groups emerged from a cove on one side of the peninsula. Given the large number of them (there are rarely this many ring-necked ducks at the lake), it's almost certainly a group of birds stopping over during migration. They seemed content to share space with the mallards.
