NOTES: LNS notes: Use caution with this recording. The original tape was off speed and playback for archival was at 8.04 ips, calibrated by the recordist's 440Hz tone. Approximately 41 minutes into the recording, the recordist announces on a separate voice channel that an pump on board was making squealing sounds that could be heard on the hydrophone. 18Jan2006 SAS. Sound Recording Log: "Date: 10 April 1975. Time state Rec.: 1327. Time stop rec.: 1410 est. Cruise#: Panularis II. Tape #s: 2. Position: edge Challenger Bank. Species: Humpbacks. Number: Several groups. Est. Range: 100 - yds and over. Weather: 8 foot swells, clear, winds 10-15 WNW. Sea state & noise level: low + low. Depth: 30 fath. Propulsion & aux. noise status: shut down completely. Recorder: Uher. Ithaca gain: 34, -3db filter = 100. Hydrophone: CH-1a. Other notes: Some parts quite clear, other parts sev. at same level. There are some styrofoam float/cable squeal rubbing noises heard at times." SEAOCEAN.
