Media notes

Subtitle: courtship display. The nesting area for North Seymour Island was warm (about 80 degrees Fahrenheit/27C) and located a few hundred yards from the Pacific Ocean. In this clip, one can hear the low rumbling sounds of the nearby ocean surf. There were many surrounding nesting areas of blue-footed boobies and frigatebirds in the nearby vicinity. Two different voc types given here. The male bird (see photo: smaller pupil, left) was slowly walking with one blue foot in the air at a time around the vicinity of a female bird (larger pupil, right). During this time, he would be making a peeping sound while visibly panting. The male would occasionally spread and extend both wings while pointing its bill skyward with a high pitched shrill. The female would intermittently respond with a medium pitched quacking sound. Other Behaviors: Whistles, Perform Courtship Display. Habitat: Island.
