Observation details
Although Eastern Willets are thought to make a long over-water transatlantic crossing, from northern breeding grounds to South American wintering grounds, we believe this individual to be an Eastern, rather than a Western Willet, based on the following field marks: 1) small overall size (compare with Whimbrel in one of the shots) 2) bill pale, with pinkish cast (not darker and bluish, as in Western) and relatively thick and short 3) shape chunky, not elongated The legs, however, appear to be quite long, perhaps too long for Eastern?
