NOTES: When recorded, the birds were unseen but apparently 12-25 m away and <1 m up (mostly within a 1/2 m of the ground); the first part of this recording was natural, the second following playback of the prerecorded clip from the Alta Floresta project; in response to playback, the birds approached weakly, and occasionally gave a sharp chatter call, but more typically they sang a similar song, possibly more frequently than before; my impression was that most of this highlighted the male but both sexes appeared to be singing (the female much less so); I saw both members of the pair (the female better than the male), but neither all that well because they tended to stay some distance back from me and generally in dense undergrowth, much of it palms and ferns, along the dry streambed; this was recorded about 200 m above [to the right of] where the Teles Pires Trail crossed over the dry streambed; sun was up; mostly clear overhead, calm, 75¡F [= RCR055-057]. ML: Background subject changed from recordist's original identification of Xiphorhynchus guttatus eytoni to Xiphorhynchus guttatus [eytoni Group] to conform to eBird Taxonomy (v. 1.55). -Jay McGowan/Matt Medler, July 2015. Response to playback: Approach. Response to playback: Normal song. Response to playback: Different song. Other Behaviors: Mate, Advertise. Habitat: Rainforest, Evergreen Forest, Riparian.
