Observation details
Adult found yesterday evening by Mike Epler. Slightly smaller and thinner than RBGU, with thin reddish bill and grayish bar above eye and black ear patch. Dark reddish legs. White outer primaries, with black underwing, fading to white in the secondaries. First seen floating down the river fairly close to the York County side, but then flew over and stood among other gulls at the edge of the ice shelf where it was often partially or completely obstructed by other gulls. At 12:10pm the bird appeared in front of us suddenly, and then flew up and over the trees, heading W into York County, where we lost it in the fog.
