Observation details
Steve Mlodinow commented, "Awesome find! Both magnificently rare, and splendidly photographed... plus a most difficult identification!" -The white of the breast extends up toward the throat, in a broken pattern intermediate between Common Murre (rounded top of the white breast with no extension toward the throat) and Thick-billed Murre (pointed extension of the top of the white breast toward the throat); -Overall color more blackish than Common Murre but more brownish than Thick-billed Murre; -Bill shape intermediate; -White gape line thin and indistinct, less than on Thick-billed Murre but would be absent on Common Murre; -Flank streaking is variable, but I think this is less than typical of Common and more than typical of Thick-billed.
