Observation details

want to make sure we got the correct subspecies here. Heard giving single toots later in the trip, but not by me. Said to give a note per second or so? We heard a squirrel or chipmunk later in the trip that fooled us into thinking this was the owl. Can the subspecies be determined from just a photo?
