Observation details
Initially found by Johnny and Sandra Nickerson on Nov. 30 at the same location at Daniel's Head. 'All the Birds of Nova Scotia' by Ian McLaren states that there have been 30 reports until the end of 2010, but some are of the more difficult to ID males and many are without good details. Only two have previously been confirmed by photos (Nov 13, 1971 and Jan 3-23 1977). Here are details on the most convincing reports that I can find details on: Nov 2, 2011 - Sable Island - Blake Maybank, female, "distinctive plumage and dark eyes") https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/NS-RBA/conversations/messages/8048 Dec 6, 2008 - Dartmouth - Fulton Lavender and Clarence Stevens Jr., female, "usual distinguishing details given on plumage, eye colour, bill shape, and length of tail" https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/NS-RBA/conversations/messages/5134 Jan 3-23 1977 - Lockeport - female, "Jan.3-23 (at least) at Lockeport by George Perry, later seen by LEN,HJM. This bird was photographed, and identification confirmed by E.L. Mills and I.A.McLaren." Oct 3, 1974 | Seal Island - Bruce MacTavish, https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S41933305 Nov 13, 1971 - Dartmouth - female, photographed by Ian McLaren.
