Observation details
This great-horned owl dive-bombed and decapitated one of our free-range chicken then attempted to take flight with its prey -- but ran into and then got untangled in the perimeter chicken fence. I was able to cut the fence away and free the bird unharmed -- but during the encounter the owl took a swipe at me with its talons causing a finger cut through my leather glove that looked like it was made by a surgical scalpel. An incredible experience to be face to face with this majestic and powerful bird!
