Observation details
***mega; male; found by Tim Lenz et al. on 1 Mar. Seen initially well below dam at fire station, but then flushed up to join the Mallards and feed right below dam, where it was reasonably photogenic. A jumpy bird, more apt to flush than the Mallards it was with. Head mostly like wigeon, with body and wings more like gadwall, and wing pattern in flight intermediate. I am not yet sure how to eliminate Eurasian Wigeon as the other parent here, and the grayish flanks, buffy crown, and reddish in eye stripe could be interpreted as Eurasian traits while the greenish ear coverts and black line at base of bill might be interpreted as American traits.
