Observation details
Incubating two eggs (JM Fernandez pers. comm.). Originally identified as Scissor-tailed Nightjar (Hydropsalis torquata). Nacho Areta pointed out that based on dark crown and other features it appeared to be a female Macropsalis forcipata. At first this seemed unlikely to me because during over 10 months of fieldwork near this spot in 2018-2019 no male Macropsalis was ever observed. However, on 29 July 2020 I observed a male and female Macropsalis in display flight over this exact same nest site from 2018 and the identification as Macropsalis of the bird in this photo now seems plausible.
