Observation details
First found by Benjamin DeHaven on nearby Quarry Lake on 01/31/14. Medium sized in comparison to Canada Geese. Black, relatively 'stubby' bills with extensive pink around the middle but black tip. Striking rich chocolate brown heads and upper necks transitioning to tan lower neck and upper breast. Depending on light, the backs appeared quite dark with obvious white edges to the feathers and at other angles looked frosty. There was dark gray streaking along the sides of the breast. The belly and under tail was white. The feet were bright 'bubblegum' pink. The upper wing is strikingly silver when extended. Awesome life bird!
